Deconstructions

Q magazine

Front cover

The dominant image represents the band U2, it represent the image by using a low angle shot which represents the importance of the band. The image shows the band member looking away apart from the lead signer whereas he is looking directly looking into the readers eyes; in this image it also shows another band member almost stereotypically dressed as a bodyguard looking directly at the audience to create tension. The shadow represents a low-key lighting which creates a shadow on Bono’s face which also portrays they could be two sides to him.

The band are represented in typical rock band colours by using darks and whites to represent the genre they create the music in. the producer has used an almost stamp look for the name of the band looks like a stamp which represents the stamp that you would get on your hand when going into a concert. It also uses a buzzword, which shows the audience that is “world exclusive”, which shows that they are dominating the world.

The colour scheme represents typical black, white and red with a yellow strapline. Which represents the typical genre of rock.

VIBE

Front cover

The main title of the magazine sprawls across the page an uses a black font that fades into red to fit with the reoccurring red and black theme used throughout the magazine cover. The cover also incudes a pull quote which is located to the left of Eminem that says “I literally almost died”, this gives the reader insight to his past and what  he went through.
The dominant image which is Eminem is more important than the magazine title as he covers it, also he stands out on the white background which has obviously been done in a studio to create a more professional look the cover itself. The photographer has went with  direct mode of address as they have got Marshal staring right at the reader to crate a intense atmosphere and to also show that its a serious matter. He is wearing a black vest top to make him stand out and also it emphasizes the tattoos on his arms. The main misc en scene of the image tends to be dark colours, mainly black which is brought out through his watch, vest, hair and even his eyes have been made to look sinister.

Kerrang

Front cover

The front cover of “Kerrang” magazine uses a light colour for the background to make everything on the page stand out, the dominant image of Oli Sykes is more important than the title itself as the close up image of the singer covers most of it. Although he is holding a camera his tattoos are still visible and because they include bright colours they stand out more, the camera itself links in with the main sell line as it is “hot shots”, although you can’t really see, the photographer has made him wear a dull grey vest top this emphasises his tattoos because once again it makes them stand out. Near the bottom of the page it shows what other bands will be featured in this particular issue of “Kerrang” once again they have used bright yellow text that is easy to read as it stands out and is eye catching, two more things are displayed next to his head also showing what will be included in the magazine.

This double page spread includes the dominant mage of Niki Minaj wearing a zebra print top, which stands out against the pink background, she’s wearing this because it shows her inner animal and yet again reinforces the fact that she doesn’t care. she’s wearing a ring that covers all of her fingers and makes it look as though she’s making a statement and ultimately calling herself an “icon”. Her right arm covers the title on the page, which shows that she is more important than it; with the title being her name it doesn’t matter if she covers it because people know who she is anyway. Her lipstick stands out the most, as it is fluorescent pink, which gives a glimpse of what her personality is like because it reinforces that fact that she’s outgoing and doesn’t care.

This is a double page spread from “Kerrang”, on the left side there is a pull quote taken from the article, the use of blue text makes it stand out on the yellow background and makes it clear and easy to read. The main title covers the top half of the page and also uses the same blue as the pull quote, the by line is located beneath this and it states that Oli Sykes himself wrote the article and makes it look like a tutorial as the title starts with a “How to”. The dominant image on the page covers almost all of the left page and a small portion of the right page, once again the colour scheme used makes his tattoos stand out, they have made him wear yet another dark coloured top this shows up very well on both the background and his pale skin. The top left of the page shows what section of the magazine this article is from and is “news” this also stands out on the yellow background as the word itself uses red font and is the only thing on the pages to do so, it is also in a black box which brings it out from the yellow even more
The first thing the reader of this magazine will see is the words "RITA ORA" wrote in bold block capitals overlapping the main dominant image of the singer, this has been used to emphasize the article and also to show it is more important than the actual image of the star because with Rita Ora being a household name the image itself may not be necessary. It has been wrote in red to contrast with the black and white background and also the dark clothes she is wearing in the image. The photographer has chose the dark clothes to wear because it makes the words stand out more when they do overlap and could also be to show that the singer is up to date with the current fashion at the time of the shoot as she is wearing stylish shoes along with a hoodie, it could also represent the type of music that Rita Ora produces.
In the top left corner it shows the issue number and the date the magazine was released, judging by the big photo used at the top Bring Me The Horizon will be in the main article of the magazine also there are two other photos which means these will be the other big articles in the magazine. Underneath this there is a photo of the writer and a little bit about herself. The contents itself is split into categories each with a yellow heading above this makes it easier for the reader because it tells them what section they’re going to be reading. At the bottom right hand side there is three front covers advertising the subscription method that “Kerrang” uses, it stands out because it’s the only part that uses red to display the text.

This is a contents page from the magazine Billboard and features a white background with blue trim around the page with blue writing to match this.
